Happy May Day! I freaking loooove May Day. All April I was like, “This wind is too cold. My feet are cold. I’m cold! ” But this morning I actually woke up at 5 am to run the dog and everything felt *cool.* “Oh, this breeze is cool. The floor on my feet feels so cool and pleasant. I’m cool.”
I also read a yearly horoscope at the beginning of the year that said my hardest months would be March, April, and September, and my best months would be May, June, July. I may be oedipussing and self-fulfilling my prophecies, but now that it’s May, I am HERE for it.
(Also, I am very susceptible to runner’s high. Since 6am I have made and jar-ed 6 smoothies in three different colors, listened to Macklemore’s Downtown 10 times, I wish I were joking, and been pleasant to every one in my house! Helllllo, May!)
But in regards to April, I was very cold. So I wrote some poetry:
Outside of poetry, I have made a lot of progress on my house while internally feeling like I never get anything done. Now that it’s May though, I can recognize, I got so much done! (Thanks, runner’s high!) With a lot of help from my friend, Alyssa, who painted my playhouse, guided me to having an actual garden this year, and puts up with house design texts on the daily.
The playhouse is officially painted! It was just white primer for the last six months, but now it’s a cute little Irish cottage! Plus we took all the plants I planted in the shadiest patch of my garden and moved them to the sun. I’m sure there’s a metaphor in there somewhere.
Alyssa also had the brilliant idea of moving the stones from the shade-garden-that-wasn’t-really-a-garden-cause-it-was-depressing, and build up this bed with them. I’m in love with it every time I see it. The focus this year will be the backyard garden and then next spring we will plant shade plants in the shade garden.
We’re gearing up, finally!, for our bathroom renovation. We’re having the contractors build-in shelves in the living room at the same time, so I got the shelves up and wallpapered this month. They’ll go all the way to the ceiling, but here they are currently.
The living room is becoming an eclectic little garden and I’m all good with that.
I’ve been collecting tile for the bathroom reno and finally nailed the floor tile with these terrazzo hexagons. Originally I was aiming for a very 1940s tiled bathroom, but it’s slowly evolved into more of a masculine, earthy look. We’ve got two bathrooms though, so the upstairs one can go more feminine 1940s.
The last thing I’ve been working on this month is an essay I started writing about my empathy, or lack of it, towards parents. I think what I’m writing is worth saying, however I have also read SO MANY essays, or headlines of essays, on parenting, I’m like does it need to be put out into the universe?? I’ll keep sitting with it, adding to it, editing it, and decide that later. This is the image I created for it:
I’d love to hear how your April was. Did you create anything you’re proud of? Did you create something you’re underselling to yourself? Did you contemplate creation? Were you cold?? I was cold.
Despite the cold, much love,
Bríg
Speaking if weather changing- I had to use a hot water bottle and heater for first time this year, thus week because in Southern Hemisphere, as you move to Spring Summer we move to Autumn Winter!!!
It’s COLD!!!!!!!!
